160 volunteers who applied to volunteer in Affinity Education, Social Support and Counseling Project with the intention of sharing their love, time and knowledge came together at the "Volunteer Training: Understanding Refugee Children”. Before the project, they learned about working with refugee children, a vulnerable group.
We discussed child development and attachment, communication with refugee children and group work, trauma and its effects, adaptation problems, case studies with refugee children, immigration, refugee and refugee rights, abuse awareness, psychological first aid and self care, volunteering awareness in the program held at Istanbul Medeniyet University on 23-24 February 2019.
We would like to thank our esteemed speakers who shared their knowledge and experiences with us, and our volunteers who participated in the program with great devotion despite a snowy day in Istanbul.
